Nine Chinese nationals, suspected to be scammers who escaped from the KK Park scam centre in Myanmar, were arrested by Thai police at a resort in Klong Yai district of the eastern province of Trat today.
Police found 48 cellphones in their possession, but none of them had a passport.
The manager of the resort told the police that the men arrived at the resort yesterday in a van and an SUV with Bangkok license plates, driven by two Thais.
He claimed that the resort normally does not accept foreign guests, but reluctantly agreed to accommodate the men, because it was raining heavily when they arrived and the two Thai drivers paid for two rooms and food in advance. The drivers also declined to present the passports of the guests.
Police said that the men might be planning to slip across the border into Cambodia, to work at one of the many call centres there.
The nine Chinese nationals are currently being held in police custody for questioning, pending more charges, on top of the charge of illegal entry.
