The government is putting together a six-month campaign tackling drug problems, call center gangs, and human trafficking, Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Mr Phumtham said a meeting was planned for Jan 30, when officials from the Interior Ministry, Royal Thai Police, Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo), and other agencies would discuss new measures to better tackle the three issues.<\/p>\n
After the meeting, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra would formally announce the details of the campaign, along with leaders of the armed forces and the national police chief.<\/p>\n
Stricter\u00a0measures<\/a>\u00a0would be introduced if the overall situation did not improve within six months, Mr Phumtham said.<\/p>\n He was speaking after former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the\u00a0de facto<\/a>\u00a0leader of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, promised an end to the\u00a0abuse<\/a> of illegal drugs and activities of call center gangs in neighboring countries by the end of the year.<\/p>\n Following his visit to the Mekong River region last week, Mr Phumtham noted that the many natural crossings along the\u00a0border<\/a>\u00a0pose a great challenge to security.<\/p>\n He said \u201ca two-layer\u00a0border<\/a>\u00a0security system\u201d would be\u00a0implemented<\/a>\u00a0across 14 provinces, 51 districts, and 76 police stations, covering both the eastern and western\u00a0borders<\/a>.<\/p>\n The changes should better help prevent illegal activities along the\u00a0borders<\/a>, he said, but the overall\u00a0campaign<\/a>\u00a0needed to be evaluated after six months.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n source: https:\/\/www.bangkokpost.com\/learning\/advanced\/2944162\/major-crackdown-planned-on-drugs-call-scams-human-trafficking<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
