They checked out on Feb 1, took a taxi to the Rim Moei Market, near the 1st Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, and walked around like other tourists before\u00a0<a class=\"link-vocab\" data-id=\"4565\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#vocab-item\">disappearing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At 11am the same day, police spotted a Myanmar\u00a0<a class=\"link-vocab\" data-id=\"10107\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#vocab-item\">national<\/a>\u00a0arriving from Myawaddy to Thailand via the bridge. The\u00a0<a class=\"link-vocab\" data-id=\"8090\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#vocab-item\">individual<\/a>\u00a0picked up the\u00a0<a class=\"link-vocab\" data-id=\"9272\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#vocab-item\">luggage<\/a>\u00a0belonging to the Japanese men from the hotel and returned to Myanmar without passing through Thai\u00a0<a class=\"link-vocab\" data-id=\"3919\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#vocab-item\">customs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"ads-inread-0\" class=\"ads ads-boombox active\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-inread-0\">Authorities determined that the Japanese men had illegally crossed the border and were likely involved in <a class=\"link-vocab\" data-id=\"16298\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#vocab-item\">transnational<\/a>\u00a0crimes or a call centre\u00a0<a class=\"link-vocab\" data-id=\"13518\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#vocab-item\">scam<\/a> gang targeting Japanese people.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Police contacted the Japanese Embassy, which confirmed the four had\u00a0<a class=\"link-vocab\" data-id=\"19409\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#vocab-item\">criminal records<\/a>\u00a0and multiple arrest warrants for drug-related offences in Japan.
