On 24 June 2025, Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, attended the 59th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, on the occasion of the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, and took the opportunity to participate in various activities to reaffirm Thailand\u2019s commitment to promoting women\u2019s leadership in multilateral diplomacy, including efforts to advance global governance.<\/div>\n

The Deputy Permanent Secretary attended the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition \u201cNot a Woman\u2019s Job?: Women Leading in Multilateralism and Diplomacy,\u201d co-organized by the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) and the UN Library & Archives. The exhibition honours the leadership of women in shaping global governance, with Thailand showcasing the contribution of Thai female peacekeepers who served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).<\/div>\n

During the Council, the Deputy Permanent Secretary also delivered national statements in two key sessions. In the second panel of the annual full-day discussion on the human rights of women, focusing on women\u2019s leadership in peace processes, Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to the Women, Peace and Security agenda, highlighting progress in its national action plan, as well as supporting for women\u2019s participation in local peacebuilding, and the deployment of female peacekeepers in UN missions. In the Interactive Dialogue with the UN Working Group on Discrimination against Women and Girls, Thailand welcomed the Group\u2019s official visit to Thailand in December 2024 as part of its standing invitation to HRC special procedures and emphasized continued efforts to promote women\u2019s empowerment and gender equality. Thailand further expressed its commitment to maintaining dialogue and cooperation with the Working Group and to taking forward its practical and forward-looking recommendations.<\/div>\n

Women play a vital role in Thailand\u2019s diplomatic service, currently making up approximately 66 percent of all Thai diplomats. This includes 22 female Ambassadors, accounting for 36.66 percent. At present, the Ministry is led by a female Permanent Secretary, with 5 out of 12 departments headed by<\/div>\n
