Ms. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has been appointed by the Cabinet as the Chairman of the National Anti-Trafficking in Persons Committee. Deputy Prime Minister Wongsuwan will take over the position from Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce to ensure smooth government administration of the cross-cutting issue.

Deputy Prime Minister Wongsuwan will also oversee Committee on Prevention of Official Complicity in Human Trafficking, a mechanism dedicated to investigate and prosecute government officials complicit in human trafficking operations.

During the meeting on the 9th of July with Ambassador Michael George DeSombre, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, Deputy Prime Minister Wongsuwan acknowledged recommendations from the U.S. Department of State’s annual TIP Report on Thailand’s anti-human trafficking progress and asserted Thailand’s strong commitment to combat human trafficking as its top national agenda and to improve Thailand’s ranking to Tier 1.
